WOC and TOUR competition days with preliminary timetable

The preliminary schedule for the World Orienteering Championships and WOC Tour is ready to be published. The competition will take place across four different arenas, with events ranging from sprint races to relays.

The competition week will begin with the WOC Tour’s sprint in Nilsiä on Monday, July 7, from 12.00 to 17.00. The event center will be Kankainen Sports Field. On the same day, the World Championship competitors will take part in a model orienteering session at Tahko.

On Tuesday, July 8, from 10.00 to 14.30, the competition continues with the WOC qualification for the middle distance race at Tahko. The competition center will be located by the Tahkolahti Bay near the ski slopes, right next to the bridge crossing the bay. Spectators are welcome to cheer on their favorite competitors. The day will conclude with the WOC Tour’s long distance race from 14.30 to 18.00, immediately after the middle distance qualification.

On Wednesday the WOC Tour will compete in a middle distance race in the morning at Tahko from 08.30 to 12.00, followed by the thrilling middle distance final in Neulaniemi from 14,00 to 18.00. The men’s medalists from the Swiss World Championships were Matthias Kyburz, Joey Hadorn, and Jannis Bonek. The women’s medalists were Tove Alexandersson, Natalia Gemperle, and Hanna Lundberg. By around 18.00, all new medalists will be known.

On Thursday, July 10, the World Championships will continue with the long distance final at Neulaniemi’s challenging terrain from 10.30 to 18.00. In the Swiss World Championships 2023, the men’s medalists were Kasper Fosser, Matthias Kyburz, and Olli Ojanaho. In the women’s category, Simona Aebersold, Tove Alexandersson, and Andrine Benjaminssen stood on the podium. Will new challengers emerge this time?

Friday, July 11, will be a rest day for the World Championship competitors as they prepare for Saturday’s relay event. Meanwhile, the WOC Tour participants will compete in a middle distance race at Neulaniemi from 10.00 to 15.00.

The highlight of the week will be on Saturday, July 12. The WOC Tour’s day will begin in the morning with a middle distance race at Puijo from 08.30 to 12.00, followed by the World Championship relay, which will close out the orienteering week from 13.00 to 17.00. In the men’s relay at the previous World Championships, Switzerland, Finland, and Sweden formed the medal podium, with Norway narrowly missing out on a medal position. In the women’s relay, Sweden, Switzerland, and Norway were the top teams, while Finland had the honor of being the best team without a medal.
