Heading towars the Orienteering World Championships

Experiences from the World Cup pave the way towards next summer

The 2024 Orienteering World Cup finals are over and it is time to say thank you. We want to thank every participant, competitor, spectator, partner, volunteers, land owners and each and everyone who helped to make the event a success!

In Nilsiä’s Lastulahti, There were top orienteers from all over the world, national level competitors as well as recreational orienteers. A total of 294 orienteers from 32 different countries registered for the World Cup competitions. The competition was successfully completed.

– The athletes have been satisfied with the end of the orienteering season. The arena audience got what they had come to see – and in the very best environment, with the arc of drama maintaining interest until the last moments of the event, stated event director Jari Kymäläinen. We learned a lot during the past week, so it is definitely good to continue from here towards next summer, Kymäläinen continued.

Sweat and tears of happiness

We saw amazing performances and successes during the competion days. The races started on Thursday Sept 26 with the long distance. On Friday we enjoyed the surroundings each on our own way and also with the Metsäareena partner event. On Saturday, Sept 29 we saw some tight races on the middle distance and the whole event culminated in an exciting relay on Sunday ending the World Cup 2024 as a whole.

You can still get in on the competition atmosphere afterwards from Yle Areena and through the official results service. The links can be found in the end of this page.
